Hybrid athlete and data nerd. John lifts, runs, trains at home and reads the spec sheets so you don’t have to.

John is a hybrid athlete: part lifter, part runner, and a firm believer that the best gym is the one you’ll actually use. For most people that means one at home, which is how a rack in the garage turned into a mild obsession with steel gauge, hole spacing and warranty fine print.

As a self-confessed data nerd, John treats an equipment purchase like a training block. Specs, footprints, ceiling heights, what’s really in the box, warranty terms and owner reports all go into the spreadsheet before any verdict comes out. That means checking every number on the brand’s own site and reading hundreds of owner posts on Reddit to find the problems that show up in year three, not week one.

John hasn’t tested every product on this site in person, and the reviews say so. What John does is the research most buyers don’t have time for, then tells you plainly who should skip a product.
