Onnit Kettlebell Review

Onnit no longer sells kettlebells on its site. Here's what owners say about Onnit's Primal Bells and regular bells, what to pay used, and what to buy instead.

Onnit no longer sells kettlebells: as of October 2026, onnit.com sells only supplements. Onnit’s Primal Bells work, but owners say the faces make two-sided moves awkward and they cost more than standard bells. Buy one used only if you love the look. Otherwise get a Rogue or Bells of Steel bell.

Onnit, the fitness and supplement brand co-founded by Joe Rogan, became known in home gyms for its Primal Bells: kettlebells cast in the shape of an ape, a werewolf and other faces. We checked Onnit’s current store and read what owners say on r/kettlebell. Here’s what you need to know before buying one now.

What owners like

  • They’re fun. Owners who bought Primal Bells say they enjoy them and use them regularly. One owner of a Chimp and a Gorilla has used them since 2020 for home and weekend-trip workouts.
  • Swings and goblet squats are fine. An Orangutan owner says it’s their most-used bell for swings and goblet squats, with good balance.
  • The smooth-backed ones rack fine. Chimp and Gorilla owners say the back is rounded, smooth and feels like a normal bell in the rack, as long as you face the design away from you.
  • Onnit’s regular bells were well liked. One owner calls their standard Onnit 28 kg their favourite bell and wishes Onnit still made them.

What owners don’t like

  • Two-sided moves are awkward. Owners with several Primal Bells say the designs get in the way of cleans, snatches and anything that uses both sides.
  • The price. In a long r/kettlebell thread, owners point out that one Gorilla cost about as much as two plain 32 kg Rogue bells. Most say a standard bell is better value.
  • The image. Plenty of r/kettlebell commenters see them as shelf ornaments. The top reply in one thread calls them “an objectively inferior product” compared with a smooth bell.

What to pay for a used Onnit bell

Pay no more than a new standard bell of the same weight costs. At the time of writing, a new 35 lb Rogue bell is about $80 and a 16 kg REP bell about $75. Some owners on r/kettlebell picked up Primal Bells on Facebook Marketplace for less than Onnit used to charge, which is the only time they make sense.

What owners say

Frequently asked questions

Does Onnit still sell kettlebells?

Not on its own site. As of October 2026, onnit.com sells only supplements; its kettlebells, Primal Bells, maces and clubs are gone. Owners on r/kettlebell noticed Onnit had stopped selling kettlebells. You can still find Onnit bells used on Facebook Marketplace, eBay and occasionally at retailers with old stock.

Are Onnit Primal Bells worth it?

Only if you love the look and get a good price. Owners on r/kettlebell say they work fine for swings and goblet squats, but the shaped faces get in the way of two-sided work like cleans and snatches. Several point out that for the price of one Primal Bell you could buy two standard bells from Rogue.

What weights do Onnit Primal Bells come in?

Owners on r/kettlebell list the Howler (18 lb), Chimp (36 lb), Werewolf (62 lb) and Gorilla (72 lb), plus the Orangutan and the larger Bigfoot. Each design is a different animal or character face.

Are Onnit's regular kettlebells good?

Owners who have them like them. One r/kettlebell owner says their Onnit 28 kg is their favourite bell and wishes Onnit still made its normal kettlebells. If you find standard Onnit bells used at a fair price, they're a good buy.

What should I buy instead of an Onnit kettlebell?

For standard bells, Rogue (rated 4.8 out of 5 from 1,465 reviews) or REP (about $75 for 16 kg). For an adjustable bell, the Bells of Steel Adjustable Competition Kettlebell. See our best kettlebells guide for all six picks.
