Schwinn IC4 Indoor Cycling Bike
4.2/ 5 our rating

The Schwinn IC4 is the best value spin bike for most homes: quiet magnetic resistance, SPD and toe-cage pedals and Bluetooth that works with the Peloton app, Zwift and others, for about $800 on sale. Owners ride it for years and say it matches a Peloton's workout without the price. Don't trust its power numbers for FTP training, plan to upgrade the seat, and check the pedals now and then.

What we like

  • Works with the Peloton app for a fraction of a Peloton Bike
  • Smooth, quiet magnetic resistance
  • SPD and toe-cage pedals included
  • Long frame warranty

What we don't

  • Power readings aren’t accurate enough for FTP training
  • Stock seat is uncomfortable for many at first
  • Small console; you supply the screen

Price and ratings (October 2026): About $800 on sale (list $999). 4.5 out of 5 from 3,770 on Amazon (77% five-star, 4% one-star).

Who it’s for

The IC4 is for people who want Peloton-style spin classes without Peloton’s price, and for anyone who wants a quiet, sturdy spin bike to ride while watching TV.

What owners love

  • Peloton classes for less. A three-year owner uses the Peloton app on an iPad and says “you can get an amazing workout”; the only loss is the leaderboard. Others say the workout quality is the same as a Peloton.
  • It holds up. An r/AppleFitnessPlus owner rides 4–5 times a week and says it’s held up well after a year, and the IC4 is the bike owners there recommend most.
  • It’s good even without apps. On r/SchwinnIC4_BowflexC6, owners who just watch Netflix say it’s a big step up from cheap Amazon spin bikes.

What owners complain about

  • Power accuracy. Owners who added power pedals say the IC4 read high, especially at the top end; one was “humbled immediately”. Don’t use it to set an FTP.
  • The seat. Many find the stock seat uncomfortable at first. Most adapt within about ten rides; others add padded shorts, a gel cover or a wider replacement seat.
  • Pedals and creaks. Owners report pedal threads stripping and pedals snapping off, and creaking that develops over time. A very high-mileage owner, at about 33,000 km, replaced pedals “countless times” before the left crank snapped out of warranty, and found replacement parts out of stock.

How to keep it running

Check that the pedals are tight every few weeks, re-grease threads when you swap pedals, and keep the bike level. Consider Schwinn’s extended warranty: one owner paid about $150 for five years.

Schwinn IC4 vs the alternatives

  • Peloton Bike: the built-in screen, leaderboard and live classes, at a much higher price plus a membership. Our best exercise bikes guide covers whether a Peloton is worth it.
  • Rogue Echo Bike: for full-body intervals rather than spin classes. See our Echo Bike review.
  • Schwinn 130: a simpler, cheaper upright bike.

Should you buy it?

Yes. For most people who want a spin bike, the IC4 is the best value, especially around $800. Just don’t buy it for accurate power data.

Schwinn IC4 Indoor Cycling Bike FAQ

Is the Schwinn IC4 as good as a Peloton?

For the workout, yes. Owners on r/SchwinnIC4_BowflexC6 who use the Peloton app on an IC4 say the quality of the workout is the same. You miss the built-in screen and the live leaderboard, and setup takes a little more effort, but the bike costs a fraction of a Peloton and has no required subscription.

Is the Schwinn IC4 power reading accurate?

Not very. Owners who added power-meter pedals found the IC4's power read high, especially at the top end. It's fine for following classes and tracking effort, but not for setting an FTP or training by watts.

Is the Schwinn IC4 the same as the Bowflex C6?

Yes. Owners describe the Bowflex C6 as identical to the IC4 apart from branding and colour.

What problems does the Schwinn IC4 have?

The most common reports are an uncomfortable stock seat, creaking that develops over time, and pedal threads stripping or pedals snapping off. One very high-mileage owner, at about 33,000 km, had the crank snap after replacing pedals many times.

What warranty does the Schwinn IC4 have?

10 years on the frame, 3 years on mechanical parts and electronics, and 1 year on labour. An owner on r/AppleFitnessPlus bought Schwinn's 5-year extended warranty for about $150.
